As the year winds up, and then down... remember to stay connected the Source; the Vine. Jesus described himself as the vine and we as the branches. As long as we stay connected to Him, we will bear much fruit that will last. If we disconnect from Him, we will become like the branch that is broken off a vine: it withers and becomes dry, good for only throwing away and burning (John 15:5-8).

As the pressures mount over the next week, keep your eyes fixed on Jesus. Stay connected by praying, reading your Bible, and fellowshipping with other believers.

Go and Tell!

"Holy, holy, holy is the Lord almighty;

the whole earthy is full of his glory!"

~Isaiah 6:3

Christ-following educators, let's start the week with worship of the King of Kings. Speak this prayer out loud to your God and give Him the glory.

Although Isaiah felt unworthy to serve the Lord, he was redeemed and then the question was asked: "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" (v. 8). Isaiah's response? "Here am I. Send me!" (v.8), to which the call was to "Go and tell..." (v.9).

If you've given your life to Christ, then you are a new creation. The old is gone and there is something new and wonderful in its place. Now take the call to go and tell!

In Proverbs we learn that to a person their own ways seem right, but God weighs the motives of the heart. At the beginning of this week, let us ask God to search us and to show us if there is anything in us that is not pleasing to Him. As we do this, the Lord will lead us in 'the way everlasting' as we approach the end of this school year.

Cast Your Net!

Jesus is alive!

When Jesus appeared to the disciples on the banks of the Sea of Galilee after His death and resurrection, the fishermen weren't experiencing much success (John 21:1-14). In fact, they hadn't caught anything all night. When Jesus called out to them, He told them where to cast their nets and the haul of fish was so large that they weren't able to bring it in!

Have you listened for Jesus' voice lately? Is He asking you to cast your net somewhere? If we hear His voice and obey, there will be miraculous things taking place in the lives of those around us!

May God bless you today and make you a blessing for many.. a fisher of men! Jesus is alive!

Crushed Spirit?

So true! If you live with hope and have great expectations for the future and enjoy peace in your spirit, you can conquer almost anything. On the other hand, if you feel isolated, hopeless, sad, and unsupported, the smallest task may seem unsurmountable.

The turn from hopeless to hopeful can be the smallest thing, yet it will change a person's direction completely!

This week, look to offer encouragement to someone God places in your path. Instead of a witty or humorous comment, offer encouragement, and you may unknowingly be used by God to change someone's perspective on their day and life.

Daily Start

I've been starting my mornings, daily, with the following song which I offer as a prayer. It's been so good to begin the day with praise of our God who is the greatest and creation cries out to Him. This is a blend of the verses of the song, but here it is:

Praise to the Lord

the Almighty!

the King of creation!

O my soul praise Him

for He is thy help and salvation!

Let the amen come from His people again!!

Join me in glad adoration.

Give God all praise at the start of your day proclaiming His greatness. Acknowledge that He is the one who saves and has been the One to help you. The last part speaks of unity among believers and an attitude of thankfulness and pure love for God.

Poured Out For Many

Easter is nearly here, and there is already a bit of a buzz in churches and homes with small children about the Easter egg hunts, chocolate, etc. Let's begin to focus our attention on the real & amazing meaning behind the season.

Jesus said: "This is my blood of the covenant which is poured out for many..." (Mark 14:24).

The ultimate sacrifice by the Son of God made it possible for us to have our sins forgiven, and to have a relationship with our Father in Heaven.

Perhaps the next two weeks could be filled with thanksgiving, on our parts, for all that was done for us by Jesus.

Make His Praise Glorious!

Educators! Let's bring this attitude to work with us. It shouldn't be saved for church or life group, but every day! His deeds are awesome and his power is great (v.3)!

Bless & Curse?

Let's keep praying daily, hourly... without ceasing!... for our schools and for the students, parents, & staff in them.

Let's also continue to be a blessing to those we work with. James teaches us the importance of bridling the tongue. He asks how it is possible that we can praise our Father in Heaven and yet curse people around us who are made in His likeness (James 3:9-12). This can't be! He asks, can both salt water and fresh water come from the same spring?

King David refers to his enemies in a similar manner in Psalm 62. He talks about people who will bless with their mouths, yet they curse you in their hearts (Psalm 62:4).

Educators who are followers of Christ Jesus, watch what you say and check what's in your heart.

Prayer

Lord, give me a pure heart with true & sincere love for my colleagues, students, and others that I will meet this week. Forgive me for any ill-will I hold towards others. Help me to see each person through the lens of Christ-like grace & mercy. I want to be an optimist, not a pessimist, because I know you are with me. Help me to be a blessing to everyone I meet.

Quick To Listen

My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.

~James 1:19-20

A great challenge for this week. Let's listen first, and then... maybe... speak, as the Spirit of God leads. People around us need to be heard.

If you find that you are becoming angry quickly, go to the Lord in a spirit of humility and of confession. Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you! (1 Peter 5:5-7)

Rejoice In The Lord Always!

Start your week by praising God and telling Him how great you think that He is! Proclaim His faithfulness in your life and lift Him up!

Are you facing anxieties & fears? Present them to the Lord, not to your friends or family. Take them to the One who cares and can do something about them. Trust Him, and He won't let you down!

Let us focus our attention on the good & noble things around us and think about positive things. As a result, receive His peace for the week and.. REJOICE in the Lord!

True Love

In I Corinthians 13 we are given good instruction on the importance of love. Unbelievably, even if we do amazing things in work and in life, in the absence of love we 'gain nothing' (v. 3). These amazing things may include speaking in tongues, prophesying, possessing great wisdom and understanding, giving all to the poor, enduring physical hardship... wow!

According to the Word of God, love is "patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails..." (vv. 4-8).

Whatever tasks you find before you today, do them with love!

Lead Us Lord

One of the promises of God is that we are considered to be children of God if we allow ourselves to be led by God's Spirit (Romans 8:14-17). With that title comes incredible benefits including having the creator of, well, everything in our corner. We are co-heirs with Christ and have the right to call out to God as our Father.

Ask the Holy Spirit to lead you this week through each trial and success; He already knows what you will face. And as you give Him the lead, walk with confidence into each situation you will face knowing that your Heavenly Father is with you every step of the way.

Dear Teacher,

Remember that God is the One who will protect you; you don't need to try and make everything work out perfectly on your own strength because He is your shield. When you feel exhausted, look to Him and He will give you the strength that you need... really, He will! Trust Him because putting your faith in Him will allow Him to show you that He can and will help you in every situation that you may find yourself in this week.

As you put your trust in Him fully, you will find an indescribable joy in everything you do, and as you praise Him, others will be blessed!

Trust

It has been said that 'trust is like a vase... once it's broken, though you can fix it the vase will never be the same again' (unknown).

In Proverbs we are given great wisdom which warns us against trusting in our own cleverness or riches and Isaiah warns against trusting in 'mere humans'. Instead, those who trust in the Lord are blessed (Proverbs 16:20).

Whatever your challenges or struggles may be today, put your trust in God and not in the things or people around you. Go to God in Jesus name and let Him work on your behalf.

Integrity

The way we work, deal with people, treat others, respond to crisis, react when something goes wrong, listen to others' problems & concerns, etc... have a much larger impact on those around us than the words we speak. Followers of Christ: work hard, work honestly, don't take short cuts, take responsibility for your work, and be ready to help those in need around you.

In the words of St. Francis of Assisi, "Preach the gospel always, If necessary use words."

A Loving School Culture

Peter encourages the followers of Christ scattered abroad to '...love one another deeply, from the heart" (1 Peter 1:22).

A positive school culture starts with you & me! The word 'love' isn't often used to characterize our feelings for people in the buildings in which we work, but according to the apostle Peter, once we have purified ourselves through the blood of Christ and have begun to live our lives in obedience of God's instruction, the love will be a by-product of the Holy Spirit at work in us.

So I encourage you to sincerely love those around you, with God's help. Allow Him to pour out through you to those you encounter patience, kindness, forgiveness, & generosity. It will make a huge difference to your school culture if you and the other followers of Christ begin to act in this way with colleagues, students, and parents.

Week 15: A Message For This Week!

The angels had a wonderful, joyful, hope-filled message to share with the world. They appeared to the shepherds in the fields outside of Bethlehem and made the following proclamation: "Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests" (Luke 2:14).

This week, let's present a similar message to those we work with by: 1) Giving glory to God, and 2) Praying for peace in the lives of our colleagues, friends, and families.

The coming of the Saviour is to be a joyful celebration. May God fill you with great joy this week as you face the challenges of the last week before the holiday.

Week 14: Who Has Power Over You?

Jesus was handed over to Pilate to be executed. Pilate was afraid of Jesus and wanted nothing to do with his death (John 19:8). He tried again and again to change the will of the Jewish leaders, and the crowd, but they continued to demand an execution. When he attempted to give Jesus an opportunity to clear His name, Jesus would not respond. Pilate finally said: "Don’t you realize I have power either to free you or to crucify you?" (John 19:10). Jesus' response is a powerful example of faith in God. He replied: “You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above..." (John 19:11).

As followers of Christ, the only One who has power over our lives is God, the Father of Jesus Christ, the Saviour of the world. He is the only One who can allow someone else to have any power over us. This means that your supervisor, her supervisor, etc... are not the ones in charge of you or your future. If you fully put your trust in God and submit to Him, He is the One who will direct your path (Proverbs 3:5-6).

Don't worry. Live your life and do your job with peace & joy while keeping your focus on Jesus, the Saviour of the world.

Week 12: That All Of Them May Be One

Jesus prayed for himself, his disciples, and for all who would believe the disciples' message. He said: "I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one..." (John 17:20).

Jesus used His life to bring glory to the Father in heaven and His prayer for us was that we would be one; united; in the same way that the Father is united with the Son. Why? Because 'then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me" (John 17:23).

Is there a way that the Christians on your staff at school could come together... as Christ Followers? Could you invite someone over for dinner, or invite some staff to pray with you before school, or even just throw out a 'God bless you' to someone you know may be a believer in Jesus?

If we can find ways to come together and unite in Jesus name, by the power of the Holy Spirit, that is how 'the world will know'!

Week 11: A Gentle Answer

Proverbs 15:1
A gentle answer turns away wrath,
but a harsh word stirs up anger.

Have you ever found yourself in a situation of conflict that seems to be getting worse by the minute? The two sides are at each other's throats, as it were, and refusing to back down. Sounds a bit like some of the wars that the world has found itself in... perhaps like some 'wars' in your school? Sometimes these take place between individuals, and other times between groups within the staff.

The God-given wisdom of King Solomon would lead us to offer gentleness in times when it would be easiest for us to give a 'harsh word'. In doing so, the back-and-forth wrath would be avoided for all those involved.

This week, let us look for opportunities to offer a gentle answer in the place of a, perhaps deserved, harsh word.

Week 10: Christmas?

It's hard to believe that the Christmas season will be upon us shortly. The reminders have begun to pop up for me already: store decorations (yes, already), and a Christmas song rehearsal in my daughter's Sunday School. Perhaps a good time, albeit early, to remember that it is intended to be about Jesus... not Santa, not presents, not family gatherings... but Jesus.

Jesus described himself as the 'resurrection and the life' and promised that if we live by believing in Him, we will never die (John 11:25-26).

Jesus is the giver of life eternal. Let's find ways to honour Him throughout this week and the coming season!

One Thing I Do Know...

In the midst of the turmoil that Jesus' ministry had led him into, there was a man who had been blind since birth (John 9:1-34). Jesus healed this man on the Sabbath and this took place during a time when the spiritual leaders of the day were very concerned... terrified... that all the people may begin to follow Jesus and leave all their establishments behind. They had already begun to plot to kill both Jesus and Lazarus, the man Jesus had raised from the dead.

When the formerly-blind man was summoned (for the second time) by the Pharisees, they asked him to tell them what had really happened because they knew Jesus was a sinner. His response is a great example for us today. He simply said: "Whether he is a sinner or not, I don’t know. One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!" (v. 25).

When the power of God, through His Son Jesus Christ has changed us, we don't need all the answers in the world! If people want to know what we believe on every topic under the sun when it comes to our faith, we don't have to know everything! Sometimes the best answer is: "I might not know or understand all of that, but what I do know is that I was blind but now I see!"

Acceptance For All?

An Oregon student teacher responded to a gr. 4 student's question about why he's not married by saying that it's not because he was too young, but because he would choose to marry a man (ABC Article). When a parent complained, the student teacher was fired. That decision was later over-turned.

Praying Educators... Christfollowers... where do you stand? Do you know where the Bible stands on this issue? Here are a couple of New Testament passages and other resources for your consideration:

Celebrity Family

This past weekend my wife and I were in Vancouver, BC with our children. While at one of the many kids' parks in the city, a young family arrived and were hoping to use the same baby swing that our littlest one was in. My wife let them know that they could have it right away after we took a picture as it was the inaugural 'swing' for our baby. We realized that the young family was actually Vancouver Canuck Ryan Kesler, his pregnant wife, and their young daughter. Most people wouldn't recognize who was at the park because the celebrity hockey player had dark sunglasses and a hoodie pulled over his head. We didn't blow his cover. :)

Got me thinking. Sometimes we can treat our faith the way Ryan, wisely, has to treat his celebrity. Instead of wearing our colours for the world to see, we have the figurative hoodie and sunglasses on, leaving people guessing what we're really about... are they... Christians, do you think?

Are there opportunities to show your faith-colours in the school you work in? Have a wonderful week!

Week 6: Use Your Gifts!

When David became King of Israel, he began the elaborate preparations for bringing the Ark of God back to Jerusalem. It was very important that all the instructions that God had given to Moses be followed or they would not be successful. One interesting role was that of Kenaniah, the head levite. He was to be in charge of the singing including the choirs that would accompany the Ark. Why was this role given to him? It is "...his responsibility because he was skillful at it" (1 Chronicles 15:22).

God has given us each gifts... skills... abilities. Don't be afraid to let them shine for God's glory. Perhaps Kenaniah should have demanded a more 'important' responsibility? Perhaps others should have requested his role because they wanted to do it? In the body of Christ, we all have important roles, and it is important that we exercise our God-given abilities.

What are you good at? Do you recognize that it is given to you by God? Now, how can you use it to bless others this week?

Week 5: Do You Want To Get Well?

When Jesus came to the pool at Bethesda, He met a man who had been an 'invalid' for 38 years (John 5:1-14). Year after year he waited for the pool to stir, but someone would always get in before him for healing. Jesus asks the man the following question: "Do you want to get well?"

Why would Jesus ask this question? Isn't it obvious enough that the man, lame for 38 years, would be desperate to get well?

In order for God's work to be complete in us, we must be willing to receive the gifts which God has for us, and for some of us today, that includes healing. Sometimes we choose to cover up that which we know to be wrong in us, pretending that everything is okay and presenting ourselves as perfect to everyone around us.

Allow me to ask you: 'Do you want to get well' from that which turmoils you? Is it anger, frustration, physical pain, emotional hurt, sin? Today, go to Jesus and ask Him to cleanse you, and He will. Confess what is wrong within you, your family, your work and acknowledge that it can't be made right again without Him. If you have sin in your heart, confess that to Him and He will forgive you (1 John 1:9).

There is Kingdom work for each of us Christ-following educators, and it's critical that we are walking clean and right with God! May God bless you and make you a blessing for many this week!

Week 4: Pray, Be Filled, Be Bold

In Acts 4:23-31, the followers of Christ began to cry out to God with great faith asking God to 'enable [His] servants to speak [His] Word with great boldness' and to 'stretch out [His] hand to heal and perform miraculous signs and wonders' in Christ's name. After the people prayed, an unbelievable thing happened: the place where they were standing shook and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and they spoke the Word of God boldly!

How exciting to be in a place where God shakes the earth and empowers His people to speak the Truth boldly! Can that happen today? Could you & I be filled with the Spirit in such a way that we have no choice but to speak the Word of God boldly; to have such a clear understanding of the call and the urgency therein that we would begin to seek out opportunities to share the Words of God as written in the Bible, to everyone in every situation as God opens the door? It can happen and is happening in many parts of the world today.

Prayer
"Dear God, many stand in opposition to You today. They plot evil and try to influence the people around them to turn away from You. In the same way they plotted against Jesus, they plot against us today. Father protect me and enable me to speak your Word with great boldness, Lord, and stretch out your hand in my school to heal and perform miraculous signs and wonders in Jesus' name! Amen."

Week 3: They Met Jesus

In John 4, a Samaritan woman meets Jesus and her life is radically changed. She had a very simple testimony of what Jesus had done for her: "He told me everything I ever did", and yet, as a result of that testimony a village was saved. She led them to Jesus, and once they met Him, they too were changed!

This week, be prepared to share your story. Be it simple or complex, God will use it to lead people to Jesus, and once they meet Him, they will be changed forever!

Week 2: Inspire Them With Life!

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 6:23)

There are so many people living under the curse of sin. There is darkness, depression, anxiety, fear, anger, and isolation. We who have given our lives to Christ and promised life to the full!

This week as you interact with staff, parents, & students... inspire, encourage, and demonstrate life for them... the life that Christ has given. May it be contagious to each one you meet!

Week 1: The Word.. Is With Us!

Educators arise! Literally, arise in the mornings again. :)

In the beginning was the Word, the Word was with God and was God. Through Him, all things were made; all things (John 1:1-5)! The Word was Jesus and He has promised that He will be with us, always, to the very end of the age (Matthew 28:20).

Let's start this school year with the confidence of knowing that the One who was in the beginning, and is God, and created everything... is with each one of us today.

Signing Off 'Til September

Educators, keep praying! A special shout-out to the folks in Minneapolis who are praying and experiencing God at work in the schools of the Twin Cities area. Praise God!

Here's an encouragement for the summer months... find pleasure in the real stuff, not in any imitations. We have a new baby girl in our home, and there are many ways we can pacify her when she's hungry for her mother's milk. All the methods seem to work for a time to keep her distracted, or perhaps, fooled. It isn't until she is fed the real stuff, the milk, that she is truly satisfied.

This summer, don't be fooled by what the enemy wants to use to pacify our built-in hunger for God; for the presence of the Holy Spirit; for worship of Jesus and thankfulness for the blood that was shed on our behalf. TV shows, movies, music, etc, etc, etc... are all okay, perhaps, but they are not the food that we need to sustain and nourish us. Spend time with God this summer; worship Him in the splendor of His creation, and direct others to Him as the Holy Spirit miraculously opens the door!

Treasure

In the book of Luke, Jesus encourages His disciples to seek His kingdom with all that we are and to trust God to provide for us. Worrying about things won't add a single hour to our lives, rather it'll probably knock off hours from your life.

Today, if worry creeps in, rebuke it, put your trust in God, seek after His kingdom, and allow Him to take care of you!

Closer Than A Brother

A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother (Proverbs 18:24).

Friendship in the world requires that friendship, or love, be received and given. If it is not, the friendship may end in ruins. Genuine friendship, however, can be even more meaningful than a natural sibling. The former friendship continues during times of prosperity, but the latter type of friendship lasts through both seasons of plenty and seasons of need.

Today, let's allow the Lord to show us someone on our staff for whom He would ask us to be a friend who sticks; is glued or cemented; closer than a brother.

Upright

(Proverbs 15:9)

To be upright would include righteous, honest, and just. Today, let's bring every motive, attitude, reaction, decision... to the Lord, asking for His guidance in every situation, and let's saturate the halls of our schools with prayer! Take Courage. It is I.

There's a wonderful exchange as Peter sees Jesus walking on the stormy water. The disciples thought they were seeing a ghost, but Jesus identifies himself and says: "Take courage. It is I. Don't be afraid" (Matthew 14:27). When Peter recognizes Jesus, he immediately wants to be where Jesus is; to do the amazing things that Jesus was doing: "Lord if it's you, tell me to come to you on the water" (v. 28). Jesus replies: "Come".

Do you believe that God is moving in and around you in the school you work in? When we see good things happening, let's give Him the glory; not luck, or chance. Let's ask God to open our eyes to see Him at work, and then, let's hunger to be a part of it: "Lord, if it's you, tell me to come to you..."

Feeling the Pressure!

Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?

When Jesus was immersed in his ministry on earth; crowds, miracles, controversy, etc; he is told that his mother and brothers are outside wanting to see him. Jesus' response is quite surprising: "Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?" (Matthew 12:48). He pointed to his disciples declaring them to be his family and said: "For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother" (v. 50).

There is no earthly relationship that should get in the way of us doing God's will on earth. Rather, God will provide the support we need from those who are like-minded and passionate about doing His work.

Today, do you see any 'family members' on your staff who are passionate about Jesus and the Good News of salvation?

Scatter Some Seed!

In the 4th chapter of Mark, Jesus teaches a massive crowd while sitting in a boat as the people listened from the shore. The Parable of the Sower is later explained to the disciples who didn't fully understand. There are really two parts to this parable: one who sows, and those who receive. We can't control how people will receive the Word, but if we don't sow, then we haven't done our part.

Today, let's scatter some seed as God opens doors for us!

Canadian Prime Minister Under Fire

Marci McDonald's new book entitled, "The Armageddon Factor", takes aim at the Prime Minister of Canada accusing him of 'catering to Christian conservative groups in an effort to bolster his party's political base'. The concern for McDonald is that this 'relationship could shape federal policy in Canada for years to come'. The hope for followers of Christ is exactly the same: that our Christian leaders may be able to 'shape federal policy in Canada for years to come', to the glory of God.

I was reading Psalm 37 this morning. Here are a few of the starting phrases in verses 1 through 7:

Prayer For Grads

At this time of year, high school graduates are under a great deal of pressure both academically and socially (I'm sure there are other pressures as well). They're under-the-gun to complete high school course requirements and at the same time face a great deal of pressure to participate in grad activities, both formal and informal.

Let's remember to pray for our grads, particularly those that claim Christ as their Lord and Saviour. May God protect them and give them wisdom and strength to make good decisions and to be a light for Him in an, at times, very dark place.

If you aren't working in a high school, perhaps you could pray for students at the closest secondary school. If you are in a secondary, ask God to show you a few students that you could commit to praying for over the next month.

Wisdom & Understanding

Both wisdom and understanding are in high demand in the education system. Whether you are hands-on with kids or in an administrative role, we all need God's wisdom and understanding. I Am The Way

We Are Filled With Joy

When the Jews were permitted to return to their own land and rebuild their city and temple, it was as if they were dreaming; their prayers had been answered; they had been liberated! The response was pure joy: "Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy" (Psalm 126:2). The response from the nations who observed was to give glory to God: "The Lord has done great things for them" (v. 3). The response from the people of God was to proclaim: "The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy" (v. 3).

Today, has not the Lord done great things for us? Where would we be without Jesus, the pure and blameless son of God, who took upon our sins when he died on the cross. We have been liberated from the death that sin brings! Praise God!

Let us proclaim today: The Lord has done great things for me, and I am filled with joy!

Responding To Circumstances

Pure In Heart

In Jesus' day, there was much emphasis on the purity of the body in terms of outward washing. Many religious leaders of the day presented themselves as being pure outwardly, but their hearts were full of evil. The statement: "Blessed are the pure in heart" carried a great deal of significance, and then to add that these are the ones who would experience closeness with God was quite something!

The same statement applies today. Let's begin with a pure and humble heart; one that is full of mercy and peace. True purity comes from a time of confession before God and by the power of the blood of Christ. Then, as we face the challenges of the day, we will have God's strength to offer mercy, peace, and love.

In James 3 we are taught that the tongue is a very powerful part of our bodies. Can we really praise God and curse people from the same source? Can salt water and fresh water come from the same spring?

We are called to be a people of action. Jesus called us to action many times, including the powerful call: "Go... and preach the good news..." (Mark 16:15).

Here are a few questions for each of us today (I've placed my responses below):

What do you know for sure in your faith?
~God loves me and the people around me; that Jesus is alive; that the Holy Spirit is with me!
What do you understand that God has called you to do today?
~To love those I come in contact with; to be fair; to be honest; to walk in faith; to lead people to Jesus.

Whatever the most certain things are for each of us in our faith, let's put them into action today!

The Will of God

Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world -- the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does -- comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives for ever (1 John 2:15-17).

"If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him" (v.15). Wow! So much of what is described in this passage as being from the world are things based on selfishness: cravings, lust, boasting. All of these desires together with what they offer will pass away, but if we are committed to doing God's will first (!), we will experience complete fulfillment in God's presence beginning here on earth and continuing into eternity.

Today, watch for any hint of a selfish attitude. The self-centered attitude says: I come first with my needs, desires and rights. A Christlike attitude says: Others come first; how can I serve to the glory of God?

Praying Habit

Over the past 4 months, I have been extremely consistent in my prayer life because of one major change in my life: I walk my dog every day in the morning. Bruiser and I have walked at around 5:30am every day rain or shine, on week days, week-ends, and holidays; literally every day for the past four months. It's been an amazing addition to my life in more than one way. The best part of this new routine is that I have paired prayer with the already-routined walks. Bruiser doesn't say much as we walk, allowing me time to talk with God.

I pray for family members (every child by name), people at school, friends, and one family that I pass every day that I know is struggling through illness. I get to start my day by praising God for His creation and the many undeserved blessings in my life.

Is there a routine in your life that you could pair with prayer? If the routine is already in place, praying during it may help make your prayer times more consistent!

Devote Yourselves To Prayer

Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should. Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone (Colossians 4:2-6).

There is so much good stuff here. My focus for the day will be on the first line. First, 'devote yourself to prayer'. The word 'devote' is defined as: give all or a large part of one's time or resources to.

Second, 'being watchful and thankful'. The term watchful suggests an alertness to what is happening around oneself; a spiritual alertness. The term thankful suggests the attitude with which I am to conduct my business. Thankful for what? I'll begin with a thankfulness for God's mercy and grace in my life.

Is there anyone who you think may dislike or even hate you at work? Jesus teaches us to do good things for them. Are there any who have only negative things to say about you? Jesus wants us to bless them. Anyone treat you poorly? Jesus wants us to pray for them.

Long On Need and Short On Resources?

Jesus Stood Up To Bullies!

Text: John 8:1-11

The teachers of the law and the pharisees brought a woman 'caught in adultery' to Jesus. They wanted to trap him in front of the people on the issue, so they asked him if they should follow the law of Moses and stone her to death.

Jesus saw through their scheme and had compassion on the one they were abusing: "If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her". After they had all dropped their stones and left one by one, Jesus told the woman that neither would he condemn her, but that she should now go and leave the life of sin that she was caught up in.

The issue was never whether or not the woman was a sinner. The point was that we all are. Jesus didn't have tolerance for the sinful behaviour, yet he was full of compassion for the woman: "Has no one condemned you?... Then neither do I condemn you... Go now and leave your life of sin".

Jesus was bullied himself and paid the ultimate price for each of us. Throughout his life, however, he stood up for those who were weak and helpless. As Christ-following educators, we too ought to pray for and help those who are picked on, made fun of, and abused in our schools.

Prayer: Lord, help me to see those who I can help today for Your glory!

Being A Christian Means...

Anyone Thirsty?

Jesus met a 'sinner' at a well in Samaria and He saw her, knew her, and loved her. She needed to have the thirst within her soul quenched, and this was accomplished through Jesus Christ.

Focussed Prayer

A Ransom For Many

Jesus' disciples were beginning to jockey for position in the Kingdom of God. Jesus' challenge to them was to humble their hearts and to serve. After all, even Jesus himself didn't come to be served, but to serve others. He gave the ultimate service: His life that we may be freed from the guilt and deserved consequence of sin.

Who can we serve today? Is this their week to hear the Good News of Jesus Christ... through you and me?

Prayer Covering Schedule?

As educators, we're all very familiar with supervision schedules. What about a Prayer Covering Schedule? Christians agree to pray at, say, 8:15am every morning as they walk to class to begin their day with students. The prayers are focussed on taking our stand against the forces that war against the colleagues, children, and parents we come in contact with every day.

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. 2. That the Spirit of the Living God would be at work in the halls of your school
